11th International Conference on Tropical Marine Environmental Changes (MEC 2021):
Tropical Oceanography, Climate and Marine Disasters
First Announcement
November 22-23, 2021 Guangzhou, China
The tropical ocean plays a critical role in forming and regulating Earth’s climate and climate change on a variety of spatial and temporal scales. Its interactions with the atmosphere result in various climate phenomena such as the Pacific El Niño-Southern Oscillation, Indian Ocean dipole mode, and Atlantic Niño. Multi-scale ocean dynamical processes in the tropics have important effects on regional oceanic and atmospheric circulations, and can then affect regional or global climate. Both climate and ocean dynamics have an impact on marine disasters, extreme weather and climate events, ocean ecosystems, and biogeochemistry.
The State Key Laboratory of Tropical Oceanography has traditionally organized and hosted international conferences on the tropical Marine Environmental Changes (MEC) every other year since 2001. The conferences have provided a communication platform for the scientists all over the world who are engaged in the study of the ocean environment, ocean dynamics, ocean-atmosphere interaction, climate variability, marine disasters etc. The theme of the 11th MEC conference is: “Tropical Oceanography, Climate and Marine Disasters”. We will invite outstanding scientists in relevant research fields to discuss the influences of the tropical ocean and climate on marine disasters, extreme weather and climate events, ocean ecosystems, and biogeochemistry. International scientists can participate in the conference online, whereas domestic participants are expected be on site.
