  陈楚群,男,1960年2月生。地质与勘探专业工学学士、地图学与遥感专业理学硕士、物理海洋学理学博士和水资源工程专业工学博士。现任中国科学院南海海洋研究所责任研究员,博士生导师,海洋水色遥感学科组负责人。中国科学院研究生院教授,最近20多年一直从事海洋遥感应用研究,主要工作包括:中国南海资源与环境遥感调查;近岸海域海洋水色卫星遥感资料大气校正;海洋水色要素及其遥感探测;水体环境参数及水体水质等级遥感监测与评价;海温遥感探测及热污染遥感评价,水体重金属浓度遥感探测研究等。主持了包括国家基金项目,国家863项目,国家973项目(子课题),国家908项目,科技部中英科技合作基金项目,广东省基金项目和重点基金项目;中科院创新项目(子课题)等各类项目10多项,已发表论文50余篇,申请专利4项(已经授权1项)。 现任中国海洋学会与中国海洋湖沼学会海洋遥感专业委员会委员(2003~),中国环境科学学会环境信息系统与遥感专业委员会委员(首届,2010~),广东省遥感与GIS学会常务理事(2000~2012),副理事长(2013~)。
