报告简介: In recent years, the so-called global warming slowdown between 1998 and 2013 has received dramatic attentions. As an interface between the atmosphere and the ocean, how ocean waves respond to this slowdown period is yet to be answered. By using reanalysis data, together with remote sensing observations and in-situ measurements from 1979 to 2018, the present study finds that the trend of the global averaged oceanic wave height change is similar to that of the global mean surface temperature, that is, the increase rate slows down over this period. An analysis of the spatial trend of the wave heights reveals that different distribution of the wave height increase rates in the global ocean: downward trend in the northeast Pacific and south Indian Ocean and upward in other regions. The fact that wind-wave follows the wind variation and that swell dominates in the wave height variation suggest that the slowing in the increase rate of the wave height is indirectly affected by the sea surface wind.
